Kids can have free breakfast, lunch this summer break

For families with children who receive free and reduced- price meals at school, summer break can present a challenge.

In an effort to fight childhood hunger, local school districts are working with the state Department of Public Instruction and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide free meals to children and teens ages 18 and younger during the summer.

Breakfast and lunch will be served at no cost on selected dates in the following locations:

D.C. Everest Senior High
6500 Alderson St., Weston
Monday through Friday
June 11 to Aug. 30; no meals the week of July 4.
Breakfast: 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Lunch: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Weston Elementary
5200 Camp Phillips Road, Weston
June 18-29 and July 9-20
Monday through Friday
Breakfast: 7:45 to 8:30 a.m.
Lunch: 10:50 to 12:40 p.m.
July 23 to Aug. 3
Monday through Friday
Breakfast: 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
Lunch: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Wausau West High School
1200 W. Wausau Ave., Wausau
June 11 to July 26
Monday through Thursday, except July 4-5
Breakfast: 7:30 to 8:15 a.m.
Lunch: 11 to 11:45 a.m.

GD Jones, Hawthorn Hills, Lincoln, Riverview and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools
Wausau June 11 to July 19
Monday through Thursday, except July 4-5
Breakfast: 7:45 to 8:15 a.m.
Lunch: 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.

Horace Mann Middle School
