Students and staff of the Wausau School District had a fantastic school year! Our staff embraced the theme #Teach4Me, and our students learned, achieved and succeeded.

This year, 698 seniors graduated from Wausau West High School, Wausau East High School, Wausau Area Virtual Education, Enrich Excel Achieve Learning Academy, Wausau Engineering & Global Leadership Academy and the Alternative High School. Our seniors also received hundreds of scholarships and awards worth thousands of dollars for their academic and athletic achievements, thanks to numerous families, businesses and organizations.

High school, middle school and elementary students showcased their musical and artistic abilities at countless choir, band and orchestra concerts and art shows at schools. Their individual and collective talents shined at regional and state competitions and through artistic creations and exhibits throughout our nation, state and community.

Our students continue to demonstrate and are recognized for their knowledge, skills and abilities in the areas of career and technical education. Our CTE spaces were expanded and renovated two school years ago in response to our state and community’s growing need for a highly skilled workforce in these high demand careers around metal fabrication, manufacturing, woods, graphics, agriculture and automotive/diesel technicians.

Our phenomenal staff connect with students and their needs. They also "foster mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations that expand learning opportunities and resources," one of the district’s shared key interests.

I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to our students, staff, parents and community for the fantastic school year! I am also thankful to the Board of Education for the opportunity to lead the district throughout this academic year. I look forward to welcoming and working with Dr. Keith Hilts, who will join the district as its superintendent of schools on July 1.

Michael Schwei is the interim superintendent of the Wausau School District.
